It was a descent year in 2011 for me.  I started off the year really struggling with some swing changes but made some great progress through the year and got to play in my 2nd Nationwide tour event.  I played fairly good in September and October and won a few events, so it was a positive end to the year.  Im excited for the offseason so I can work on my game and try to make some improvements so 2012 will be even better than 2011.  Thank you for all the support.

Yesterday, I qualified again for the Nationwide tour event either in Springfield or in KC.  I shot 71-69 at Silo Ridge to earn a spot in one of the two events this August.  The game has been a bit rusty but I somehow managed to get it done.  Thanks everyone for the support.  I will keep you updated on which event it will be.

Well, I played in my first Nationwide Tour event last week here in Springfield. It was a great experience being out there all week and learning a few things about my game as it stacks up to the regulars out there. I believe my game is just as good or better than those guys, I just need some more opportunities. I shot 71-71 for a 2-under total. That wasn’t good enough to make the cut but it wasn’t bad compared to how I hit the ball. I had one of the worst driving weeks that I have had in a while hitting just 10 out of 28 fairways but I scrambled well and the best thing was that I putted well. I also am happy about my mental game this week. I had a couple tough stretches of bogeys but I bounced back with birdies to make up for them. I had 10 birdies in two days out there which is good enough to make the cut if I wouldn’t have had too many bogeys to go with it. I would also like to thank all my supporters that came out to cheer me on that week. I had a great time and it felt good to have so many family, friends, and sponsors there supporting me in the event. Thanks.

It has been a while since the last time I have blogged. I have played a few events since my last one and had a few things good happen in my life. I had the birth of my son on June 30th at 1:21 am. He weighed 8.3 and was 20.25 inches long. That was one of the most amazing days of my life and Ty Daniel Bennett is doing great as well as mom. The other good thing is that I played in our Midwest Section 36 hole stroke play on Monday the 12th and earned a spot into the Nationwide Tour event in Springfield, MO this year! I am so excited about it and can’t wait to get that event going. I would love to see lots of friends out there to watch and support me so I will let everyone know my tee times when they are available if you would like to come watch. Thanks.

I have played in a few events since my last blog. I played in my first Hooters Tour event in St. Louis. It didn’t go as planned but I got some good things out of it. I played well to start off but then we had some weather issues and I struggled with those on the second day and I missed the cut. The next event I played in was the ALS Pro-Am in KC. I hit the ball great in that event but couldn’t get the putts to fall. The next day was the US Open Local Qualifier at the same course. This was the opposite to how I have been playing this year because I didn’t hit the ball good but putted good. The most recent event I played in was the Rudy Fuhn Pro-Am. This was a fun event because I got to play with my father-in-law and some of his friends. I hit it good and putted good and shot 68 but came up one short of winning. I tied for second which isn’t too bad but it could have been better. This was a good event because it has given me a little more confidence for the rest of the year from how I played and putted that day. I am leaving tomorrow for KC to play in the Pro-Assistant with the Head Pro at Fremont Hills. We will play Monday and I hope that we can play well as a team. My next Hooters Event will be in June in Rogers, AR.

It has been a while since I last blogged. It has been a great holiday that I have spent with my family. I also have another bit of good news, my wife and I are expecting our first child, a boy, on June 30, 2010. That will be an exciting time! As far as the golf goes, it has definitely been a slow winter. One of the worst weather-wise winter’s we have ever had. There has only been a few days to get out there. I went down to Florida early in January to see Brian Mogg for a few lessons and learned a lot. I am in the middle of making some pretty good changes to my swing that will make me more consistent in the future. My swing was very handsy and I had an open clubface at the top. I have worked hard in the time I have had to get rid of the hands and square up the clubface. I am making some progress but still have a ways to go. I won’t have a Hooters event until probably May this year in St. Louis so I have some time to get ready for that. Thanks for the support!

I played in another pro-am last Friday at Rivercut. I played with my Dad, brother, and a few friends. They shot -19 and one by three. I shot -3 69 and tied for first. I had 5 birdies and an eagle but had four bogeys to go along with it. I played the par fives bad otherwise I would have had a really good day. We had a good time and the highlight of the day was when my brother holed out on 11 for a 2 and I holed out on 12 for a 2. That is the first time I’ve ever seen anything like that. I also have started a Twitter page so search for me there as Spud_Bennett if you want to follow it.

I have played in two pro-ams recently and done descent in them. I played in Joplin and shot 74, which doesn’t sound that good, but the wind was really blowing that day so I managed to get it around ok. I also played in the Julien down in Branson and shot a one under par 70. I played in the morning and they had an afternoon shotgun as well but they didn’t get finished so they divided the tournament up into the morning and afternoon groups. I finished tied for second there. I hit the ball really well but couldn’t get the putts to fall, otherwise, I would have had a great round. I am playing in another event on Friday at Rivercut then I won’t have much left this year. I am going to conserve some of the investments so I can play as much as I can next year too. I have got some really great experience this year and am looking forward to improving over the winter and coming out ready to go next year. I will keep updating my blog to let everyone know how and what I am doing. Thanks.

I have recently played in two Monday Quailifiers for the Springfield, MO and Kansas City, MO Nationwide Events. I played well in Springfield but came up a little short due to some late bogeys. I also played in Kansas City and played ok but didn’t hit it close enough to get a lot of good looks at birdie. Both places were tough because of the weather. Springfield was a 6 hour delay and KC was a 7 hour delay. Thanks for all the support and we will be working very hard the rest of this year to improve on my game.
